After thorough discussions during designated meetings and Debate Exchange, the yearly conference bringing together IDEA members, members of our debate community voted to establish the European Schools Debating Championships (EuroSDC). The tournament’s first edition is set to take place in Prague from the 15th to the 17th of February, 2024. This new continental debate tournament for national teams fulfills a long-standing ambition within the European debating community. The EuroSDC aims to advance values central to the debate community: non-profit debate, intellectual rigor, and cultural exchange. This event is an opportunity to enhance critical thinking, public speaking skills, and cross-cultural understanding among young debaters.

Hosted by the Czech Debate Association and supported by IDEA, EuroSDC is supported by funding from the European Union and IDEA member nations, enabling a subsidized registration fee. Registrations for the tournament are open until January 7, 2024. Participating countries are invited to become members of the EuroSDC Council, emphasizing the event’s community-managed nature and the collaborative spirit among the European debating community.
