Virtual High School Junior Round Robin Debate Tournament

12 Jun 2020

We are excited to welcome you to the Inaugural Virtual High School Junior Round Robin Debate Tournament! This tournament will be hosted on Discord, from Friday, June 12 to Saturday, June 13, and will be free of charge. It will feature five impromptu preliminary rounds of high school British Parliamentary format, followed by a straight break to open finals. The first three preliminary rounds will be open adjudication, while rounds four to five are closed. No doubt due to self-isolation and cancelled plans, this tournament is set to feature an excellent judging pool of experienced university debaters and high school seniors. Please note that this tournament is independently-ran and unaffiliated with any institution.
Registration and Eligibility
All students currently enrolled in 10th grade or under, or those with less than two years of debating experience may attend. Further, all teams will be independent and unaffiliated with an institution. Please note that this tournament will take place in a round-robin format: each team will debate against every other registered team exactly once in preliminary rounds. As such, it will be capped at 16 teams. Registration will open via a Google Forms link at 4 pm on Sunday, May 17, 2020, and will be on a first-come-first-serve basis. However, we encourage more experienced teams to register, given the nature of round-robin. When the team cap is filled, we will announce participating teams through this Facebook page.
Adjudication
We encourage experienced high school debaters, university debaters, and members of the debate community at large to adjudicate at our tournament to ensure high quality judging for all participants. The adjudicator registration form can be found at this link: https://forms.gle/yngfdMcVPdk3zXZf7, and the registration deadline is Monday, June 8. In true round-robin fashion, we hope to feature two independent panels of adjudicators per room.
